The DBS was formed by the merger of the Criminal Records Bureau and the Independent Safeguarding Authority established under the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012.

DBS launches its new online update service on 17th June 2013.Applicants will be able to subscribe for the service (free for volunteers) and have their DBS Certificate kept up-to-date.  It will be portable from role to role where the same level of check is required. With the applicant’s permission, employers will be able to carry out a free, instant online check. Subscription will be frfee for volunteers.

Copies of DBS Certificates will no longer be issued to the employer (or umbrella body).
