Solving Workplace Disputes

The Department of Business, Innovation and Skills consultation on “Resolving Workplace Disputes” closed in April this year. Responses were received from a number of organisations including the Institute of Directors and ACAS.

The consultation was part of a BIS-led review of employment law as the government looks for ways of making it as easy as possible to take people on.

Proposals include a change in the qualifying period for employees to be able to bring a claim for unfair dismissal. The change is expected to come into effect from 6th April 2012 and will see the period rise from 12 to 24 months. There are also proposals to introduce fees on lodging a claim with the Employment Tribunal with further fees payable on the case being listed for hearing.
