Protecting Intellectual Property
The government has confirmed that a new small claims service will be introduced in the Patents County Court. This will help SMEs to protect intellectual property rights including copyright, trade marks and designs. The high costs under the current system put many firms off taking action to enforce their intellectual property (IP) rights and prevent exploitation by larger, better resourced businesses.
This announcement follows recommendations in the Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property and Growth published in May. For further information see the announcement through Central Office of Information by the Intellectual Property Office, Digital Opportunity (the report of Prof Ian Hargreaves), and our Intellectual Property page.
